Dr Dukan prescribes exercise. This is non-negotiable. Here’s what I do to exercise.
Walk first thing in the morning
Before I started on the Dukan Diet, I exercised regularly – early morning walks before breakfast about three times a week around our neighbourhood at Balmain East: 30 to 40 minutes with some hills and walking around the harbour – gorgeous!
And walking before breakfast improves metabolism and wakes you up for the day so there’s added benefits. I walk with my husband and since starting the Dukan Diet, we are making the effort to do this walk every work day: Monday to Friday.
Working out at the gym
Three days a week I walk to the local gym (20 minutes) for a yoga class: Japanese or Hatha Yoga. Sometimes I add some aerobic work on gym equipment or a spin (bikes) or body firm class.
Exercise for pleasure
Every Sunday, my husband and I have a ritual of driving to Manly Beach in Sydney where we walk about 40 minutes before a swim and body surf.
Some Saturdays, we don our walking shoes and just take off from Balmain East and walk for two to three hours. We’ve found some amazing interesting walkways in Annandale, Glebe and other surrounding suburbs. It’s a wonderful way of exploring the beautiful place where we live in the Inner West of Sydney.
Another favourite walk is the Spit Junction to Manly walk. This is best in Autumn, Winter or Spring months as Summer is just far too hot.
When the Sculptures by the Sea exhibition is on, we do the Bondi Beach to Coogee walk which is more of a stroll really.
Increased exercise since starting the Dukan Diet
I’ve added 50 sit ups which I try to do every day. I try to arrive at the gym a half hour earlier so that I can do some more aerobic exercise and some body firming exercises with gym equipment.
Dukan Diet and exercise
Interestingly, I wasn’t losing any ‘fat’ on my middrift before I started the Dukan Diet. Within three weeks on the Dukan Diet, a lot of my excess body fat had disappeared. My body shape had been redefined. The Dukan Diet was the catalyst that made the difference. I’m now heading towards my true weight and the promise of a slim figure for the rest of my life. Whooo Hooo!
Exercise is a must
As Dr Dukan says, a 20-minute walk (increased during some phases of the diet) is prescribed. It is non-negotiable! I don’t have a problem with this as regular exercise has been a part of my life for a long time.
